Updated in 2005 to reflect the new Dietary Guidelines and MyPyramid information, this popular literature-based curriculum builds activities in nutrition knowledge, food preparation, physical activity and food safety around a core of delightful books. Books include Bread Bread Bread by Ann Morris, Pete's Pizza by William Steck, and I Will Never NOT Ever Eat a Tomato by Lauren child. Grade level-appropriate books are provided to libraries at participating schools. Meticulous in its alignment with curriculum standards, this selection is clearly written and very user friendly.
NUTRITION TO GROW ON: For Grades 3-5
One of the very best of the garden-based nutrition curriculum, this well-organized collection of content, both garden and food activities, parent letters, and much more is solidly aligned with state standards and a real favorite in schools with a garden.
EAT FIT: For Middle and High School Students
This curriculum strongly emphasizes goal setting and personal responsibility in the area of personal health (nutrition and physical activity choices), for students learning to build those skills. A Teacher's Resource Guide has lots of youth-culturally appropriate activities that students enjoy. An Eat Fit 'zine is part of the package, and the website http://eatfit.net offers plenty of interactive opportunity (games, fitness evaluation, eating analysis) along with challenge tips, success stories, recipes and links.
