Field Workers & Heat
Heat Advisory With hot weather predicted for many parts of California this week, we wanted to take an opportunity to remind you of procedures and regulations concerning prevention of heat illness. One of the key factors in preventing heat illness is acclimatization and the sudden onset of hot weather could make workers more susceptible to heat illness. To raise awareness and prevent the occurrence of heat illness, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) has issued the attached Heat Advisory. There is also information available on Cal/OSHA's website at: http://www.dir.ca.gov/DOSH/heatillnessinfo.html
In addition, there are resources available on the ANR Environmental Health & Safety website, including a page devoted to Heat Illness Prevention resources (http://ucanr.org/heatillness), Safety Note #20 that can be used for training in the field, and a written heat illness prevention plan (http://ucanr.org/heatplan) that can be part of your Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

Monterey County - 2003 Year-End Report

We are researchers and educators dedicated to the creation, development and application of knowledge in agricultural, natural and human resources. Applying this knowledge for practical solutions to local problems is what we do to improve the local economy, to mitigate the effects of agriculture on the environment, and to improve the quality of life for youth, consumers, and communities.
