What are runners?
Overview
Strawberry plants reproduce by means of “runners” that shoot off from the mother plant and root nearby. It’s important for strawberry plants to be well-established before they are allowed to produce runners. Leave a few runners to fill in the rows if pests have killed some plants, or if you are planting as a solid mat. Otherwise pinch off and remove runners and fruit while establishing your strawberry plants.
