Plant Description
Unrelated to bamboo but similar in canelike structure although leaves are divided many times with numerous narrow leaflets. Plants range from tall, airy forms to low, dense mounds that often have crinkly, multi-colored foliage. Most cultivars bear large sprays of tiny flowers that evolve into red berries prized for winter decorating. Prune tall forms only at ground level, which stimulates formation of new canes. Maintain a constant 3-foot height by annually pruning out tallest canes.
