phlomis fruticosa

Plant Description   All species are similar in bearing felty foliage and whorls of flowers on upright stalks, but they differ in flower color—yellow, pink, or purple—leaf shape and size, intensity of foliage color—yellow-green, gray-green, or dark green—and overall size. Some gardeners allow spent brown flowers to stand for months; others trim stalks after color fades. Cut back hard by one-half or more to limit spread. P. russeliana becomes a thick groundcover while other species are taller shrubs. Good drainage is needed in any type of soil.
