BACKYARD VEGETABLE GARDENING
This topic highlights planning, how and when to plant, plant nutrition, pH, and problem solving. Emphasis will be on local conditions and recommended varieties. Learn why some plants bolt, cucumbers are bitter, what causes blossom end rot, why you have lots of flowers but no squash and other veggie problems. He will discuss some common non-pest problems to help you become a successful vegetable gardener.
Richard Molinar has been a University of California Farm Advisor for 23 years, working with small family farms and specialty crops. He also taught community college for 6 years and worked in private industry for 7 years. Richard was a Peace Corps volunteer in Central America in the early 70's. He was the co-recipient of the Pedro Ilic ‘Outstanding Educator of the Year’ Award in 2000.
