We have planted six replicated varieties of blueberries in San Joaquin County for evaluation of their potential for bush ripe, direct market sales. Four replicates consisting of three plants of Earliblue, Spartan, Bluecrop, Chandler, Ozarkblue and Elliot are located on the East side of the county, near Bellota. One observational planting of with two plants of each variety is on Roberts Island. Winter chilling hours will be calculated and bloom evaluations made in the spring of 2004. Observational plantings of Bluegold, Brigetta, Darrow, Sierra, Olympia, Misty, Reveille, Duke, Santa Fe, Emerald and Bluecrisp have been made in 2004.
Please check the following links for further information or call Benny Fouche at 209-468-9491. We have a informational packet available in the office, 420 S. Wilson Way. I highly recommend attending the Field Day offered by Manuel Jimenez at the Kearny Ag Center. It is the premier research site for blueberries in California.
