These short workshops gave information about the Forest Service 2011 Woody Biomass Utilization Grant Program to potential applicants.

Woody Biomass to Energy Field Tour, November 17 2010. This field tour was a follow-up to the Oroville biomass to energy workshop in September 2010.  The participants toured a number of biomass to energy conversion facilities including the SPI sawmill and power plant in Lincoln, West Biofuels in Winters and the CPC Biomax gasification unit at Dixon Ridge Farms.   Woody Biomass to Energy Field Tour Photo Album

Biomass Utilization Workshop, Yreka, October 21 2010. This workshop, presented by the Siskiyou Biomass Utilization Group, focused on biomass conversion technologies and looked at the existing woody biomass utilization infrastructure in Siskiyou County. Future and potential projects were identified, and lessons learned from those who have been in a similar situation. Agenda and Presentations

Densified Fuels Workshop, Eureka, CA, October 18 2010. This workshop looked at the products in the densified wood fuels family and the opportunity for project development in Northern California.  Presentations addressed manufacturing principles, suitable feedstocks, markets and challenges. Stewardship Contracting & Woody Biomass Utilization Workshop: Opportunities for Sierra & Sequoia National Forests, Tulare, CA, May 6-9 2009.  This workshop looked at the potential for using stewardship contracting in the southern Sierra Nevada and looked at the challenges for developing markets for the material from forest biomass projects.  Presentations available here.

Society of American Foresters National Convention: Forestry in a Climate of Change, Reno, NV, November 5-9 2008.  Presentations from the UC "Connecting wildfire and forest health, biomass utilization and carbon" panel are in the document library.  The panel was part of the Economics and Business Trends track.  The SAF conference website is here.

Weed Workshop: "From Feedstock to Product' Woody Biomass and Small Log Workshop,  College of the Siskiyous, Weed, CA September 19th 2007.  This was a a regional workshop with a day of presentations followed by a full day field tour to Roseburg Forest Products, Shasta Opportunity Center and SPI Burney.  Presentations are available here (PDF).
