Demonstration Project Overview

The goal of the small-parcel fuel treatment and utlization demonstration project was to demonstrate mechanical equipment that might be applicable to fuel reduction on small (1-10 acres) residential parcels in the wildland-urban interface.

The demonstration was conducted on 9 privately owned parcels in 5 counties. A total of 29 acres were thinned using a small skid steer and tree harvesting attachments, including a "hot saw", a tree processor, log grapples and a brush cutter. Small logs between 5 and 10 inches were milled with a small log processor.
